The First Eight a Personal History of the Pioneering Black Congressmen Who Shape
In this deeply personal history, Congressman Jim Clyburn illuminates the forgotten journeys of South Carolina's first eight Black congressmen, elected in the hopeful dawn after the Civil War. Their groundbreaking service, tragically cut short by Jim Crow, paved the way for Clyburn's own ascent nearly a century later. This book offers a powerful blend of memoir and history, celebrating these trailblazers' resilience and confronting the enduring struggle for equality in America.
